Fall 2011 RTW: Russian Dolls
Summer looks far ahead for Istanbul even if it’s April. So looking at Fall 2011 Collections feels normal, as if I can just wear them next week.
Oscar de la Renta’s Fall 2011 RTW collection with lavish furs, printed parka, patchwork coats, silver shimmering evening gowns makes me think that it is going to be another very cold season. So cold that instead of wearing old beret, there will be fur hoods; the tweed jackets hidden in the backs of closets will be out again paired with bold brooches; brocade jackets will be in again with pantsuits and pencil skirts. There are the signature dresses of his collections; fluffy luxe big skirts, knee-length dresses but there are also damask pantsuits, slender black velvet gowns and patchwork coats. Main colors of the season are going to be silver, black and white to reflect the cold elegance of fall but there will also be ruby, jasper, Peridot and teal to keep us warm, alongside rhinestone, crystals, feathers and sequins.
Overall the collection made me think of Russia and Eastern culture, as if the models are walking down the runway on their pointy heels and booties like they are ice skating in St. Petersburg.
