Fall 2011 RTW: Kinky Silhouettes

Latex, handcuffs, pumps, S&M and fetish are the keywords for this Fall’s Louis Vuitton collection. Marc Jacobs himself  said that the subtext of this collection is about addictions of many kinds and the fetish is “the irrational, inexplicable” desire for the LV handbag, he says.

Dark colors of purple, teal and red (not to mention black and dark blue paired with white), platform pumps, rubber coats, dominatrix boots are the main elements of what make this collection kinky. Another, maybe the most important aspect of kinkiness is the reinvention of 1958 top handle Lockit bag, demonstrating it with handcuffed models. The silhouette is composed of sculpted jackets and balloon-sleeves. On the other hand; bows on the platform shoes and forties schoolgirl necks create the “cute” angle of the collection. Add these sequined skirts, see through dresses, corseted-leather-belts, fur coats, night porter hats and stockings there is the new Fall collection for LV.

When I was browsing through the collection I thought about cult characters from movies like Sean Young in Blade Runner, Charlotte Rampling in the Night Porter and although not so cult but Angelina Jolie in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. The dark atmospheres, the intensity of the plots and all the aesthetic sets and images establish a link to the general feeling and look of this collection.

Here’s why I pictured these movies when I was watching the runway show:

Big puffy sleeves, sad but sexy look on her face, a tight chignon, a big brooch and overall the dark atmosphere of Blade Runner

Well, this is just to state the obvious but “the night porter” hat and Charlotte Rampling’s weird relationship with her “lover” just ring the bell in my head.

And here are some images from the collection:
